Chris John Has Won WBA's Super Champion title

- WBA's feather class boxing champion Chris John will receive the Super Champion title at a WBA meeting to be held in Cartegena, Colombia, April 31-May 2, 2009, his manager said.

Craig Christian, Chris John's manager and trainer, said in a release made available to Antara on Friday that Chris John would be the WBA meeting's guest of honor.

The Super Champion title would be conferred on Chris John for his success in retaining his title 10 consecutive times in matches against among others Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico, Hiroyuki Enoki of Japan, Jose Cheo Rojes of Venezuela, Osamu Sato of Japan and others.

Chris John succeeded in defending his world title for eleventh time since grabbing it from WBA feather class champion Oscar Leon of Colombia in Bali in 2003. His most recent match was against Rocky Juaerez in Houston, Texas, the US, on February 28, 2009 which ended in a draw, thus giving a victory to him as the title's defender.

Of his eleven victories in defending his title, five were gained through mandatory fights where he had to face Jose Cheo Rojas of Venezuela, Derrick Gainner of the US, Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico, Roinet Caballero of Panama, and the last was Hiroyuki Enoki of Japan.

His six other wins were made in `optional matches where he had to face Renant Acosta of Panama, Jose Cheo Rojas of Venezuela, Tommy Browne of Australia, Osama Sato and Zaiki Takemoto of Japan and Rocky Juarez of the US.

It was also reported that Sampso Picasso Lewkowicz, an assistant to Chris John's manager, was currently negotiating a fight between Chris John and Philippine boxing star Manny `Pacman' Pacquaio.
